A653: Ready or Knot: Beginner Crocheting
Difficulty: *

Have you ever seen crocheted projects and wanted to make your own? Have you tried to crochet and just ended up with a tangled ball of yarn? (We’ve all been there) Join us for a hands-on workshop to learn the basic crochet knots and create a project of your own. We’ll be starting out with making a simple square and then kicking it up a notch to crochet a variety of shapes like hearts and circles! All skill levels are welcome and all the necessary supplies will be provided.

A658: Intro to Screenwriting

If you've been curious about what happens before a director shouts, "Quiet on set" or "action," actors get together to rehearse a scene for a movie or show, or editors work together to mix the sound and visuals for the content we love, we will talk about how screenplays are created and how you can start your own! We will go over creating an outline, using screenplay formatting, and share ideas of a screenplay you wish to write. No prior knowledge is required, and anyone is welcome to join! A computer is recommended so that you can type, but it is not required. We will make sure to have paper and pencil for you to use if you'd like.

A666: Learning Spanish through Games and Music

Join us for 'Spanish Beats & Games: A Day of Fun!' Learn basic Spanish, play engaging language games, while Listening or dancing to Spanish-Language Music. No experience needed!


Prerequisites
No perquisites some Spanish background may help, will be too simple and most likely boring for advanced or native speakers.

H663: Grammar Rules Are Fake: An Introduction to Intro Syntax

Why do we write “John went to the store with Mary” but not “Mary John with store the to with”? Language has structure — and it’s not the grammar rules that you’ve been taught in school.

In this class, we’ll focus on basic syntax (the structure of language) through discussion and drawing syntactic trees for sentences in English, Spanish, and more. However, no second language required!

In this Hands-On class, we will conduct some crucial experiments as we rediscover electricity and magnetism. You will gain the power to come up with your own experiments, and you will get to build your own science equipment. (And take it home!)

This course is for anyone who wants to learn how the world works—absolutely NO previous knowledge required!

You ever noticed the strange ways gay people use language? What does slaying the house down boots really mean? Gay People in a Straight World looks into queer linguistics and the language used to communicate with each other as well as how straight people use language to speak to us. If you're interested in learning about both social and linguistic fields, this class is for you, queer or straight.

We will cover research findings in phonetics and pragmatics as they relate to queer language as well as current real-world examples of popular gay language. No prior experience with linguistics is necessary.

Do you use Instagram? Tik Tok? The internet in general? Chances are you have, and at some point you have been confronted with many beautiful people, but how real are the pictures you're seeing? In this course, we will be looking at how social media contributes to unrealistic beauty standards, the effects it has on its younger audiences, and how we can become more media literate. Our goal is to walk away with a better understanding of the role social media plays in influencing modern beauty standards and trends.
