S664: Science that will SHOCK you: HANDS-ON Electricity and Magnetism in Splash Winter 2024 (Mar. 02, 2024)
The first experiments with electricity began with a shock; a scientist got blown across the room and told his friends to try it! How did we progress from that, to where we are now? In this Hands-On class, we will conduct some crucial experiments as we rediscover electricity and magnetism. You will gain the power to come up with your own experiments, and you will get to build your own science equipment. (And take it home!) This course is for anyone who wants to learn how the world works—absolutely NO previous knowledge required! Warning: the results will shock you :)

X594: Different Dollars: Cooler Ways Our Money System Could Work?! (Super Interactive) (Not Bitcoin) in Splash 2022 (Apr. 02, 2022)
Money seems like a natural idea—but have you ever wondered why we do it the way we do? Where do dollar bills come from? How could money be different? How could it be *really* different? And could changing the way we do money strengthen our communities? In this interactive class we’ll experience what it’s like to use a few radically different types of currencies (other than Bitcoin), like Community Currencies,Time Banks, and Local Exchange Trading Systems. Then we’ll talk about the simulated experiences and analyze the effects that money has on our minds and our community. If we’re successful you will leave curious about how a lot of normal things could be done differently! At least one sandwich will be involved.
