I'm interested in signing up! What do I do?

We're excited to have you on board! Splash couldn't function without volunteer teachers like yourself teaching the classes you want to teach. Here are the steps:

1) Sign up for an account on our website!.

If you've taught at one of our Splash events before, you can skip this step.

2) Fill out your teacher availability and describe the class you want to teach!

What do I need to do when teaching a class?

Not much! All we ask of our teachers is to attend a required training seminar in February (date TBD). Many people prepare PowerPoints or handouts before their class. Splash will reimburse up to 30 dollars with appropriate documentations and budget so you don't have to break the bank with class material. We'll also provide AV equipment or work with you to make sure the classroom is appropriate for the class you want to teach.

Training Seminars

What is the training seminar?

The training seminar is required for all teachers. We have included new material this year to demonstrate how to design classes to be engaging and fruitful experience for both students and teachers.

However, attending the in-person teacher training seminar is still mandatory. We will have information specific to each year's Splash event, as well as additional exercises to help you further refine your class ideas!

What if I don't know what I want to teach?

That's perfectly okay! Our seminars are intended to not only help you come up with class ideas, but also develop a full lesson plan.

This seems cool, but I don't have any class ideas.

I'm not sure if my class is appropriate. What should I do?

You can pretty much teach any class that is appropriate to high school students (so something you'd be comfortable talking about to a stranger). The Splash directors will normally approve your class unless there's serious concern about the topic or safety for the students. We aim to present topics that are balanced and agnostic, so if you want to talk about a more controversial topic, please describe how you'll be fair to both sides of the argument. If you're planning on doing some cool experiments, let us know if there are any safety concerns!

I'm done registering my class! Now what?

Keep a tab on your class enrollment and update any information here. This is also a good way to get in touch with your students! If you have any questions, feel free to get in touch with the directors at splash@u.northwestern.edu. We would love to work with you to make your class work!
