Brief Biographical Sketch:

After that it got pretty late, and we both had to go, but it was great seeing Annie again. I... I realized what a terrific person she was, and... and how much fun it was just knowing her; and I... I, I thought of that old joke, y'know, the, this... this guy goes to a psychiatrist and says, "Doc, uh, my brother's crazy; he thinks he's a chicken." And, uh, the doctor says, "Well, why don't you turn him in?" The guy says, "I would, but I need the eggs." Well, I guess that's pretty much now how I feel about relationships; y'know, they're totally irrational, and crazy, and absurd, and... but, uh, I guess we keep goin' through it because, uh, most of us... need the eggs.

X206: Conformity in Elevators and Genocide in Splash 2013 (Apr. 06, 2013)
What do the Holocaust, pedestrians walking across the street in a green light, and the NASA administration have in common? How far would you go to please others? Through several psychological experiments, we will explore how individuals can cave in to the most disastrous of decisions, how conformity can be exploited for good or evil, and what factors can increase or decrease conformity.

X207: How We Shop for Love and Friendship in Splash 2013 (Apr. 06, 2013)
"All is fair in love and war." "We accept the love we think we deserve." “Tis better to have loved and lost Than never to have loved at all.” Romance can be a rather treacherous thing, raising questions such as what makes someone attractive and whether beauty is equal across cultures. Through several psychological experiments, we will explore the basis of attraction, whether inner beauty truly does triumph over physical features, and what makes love for another person grow stronger or fade away.

X208: Mental Shortcuts and Biases in Decision-Making in Splash 2013 (Apr. 06, 2013)
When you walk into a supermarket, you are faced with decisions. Fruit Loops or Cinnamon Toast Crunch? Whole milk or 2%? Peanut butter or Nutella? (By the way, the answer is ALWAYS Nutella). More than to fulfill our dietary needs, decisions can be of crucial importance. What do you want to be in the future? Who are you going to vote for? Through several psychological experiments, we will see how we make sense of the world to make choices, how we judge others and ourselves, and realize that we are not as objective as we would like to think.
