EDDIE SCHWALBACH, NU graduate student in Materials Science

Brief Biographical Sketch:

Eddie is a Chicagoland native and a PhD candidate in the Materials Science and Engineering department at Northwestern studying nanowire growth using phase field simulations. He earned bachelor's degrees in Aerospace Engineering and Materials Science from the Illinois Institute of Technology in 2006. Tutoring and teaching have been a passion since his undergraduate days with IIT's Academic Resource Center and currently include working with Northwestern's HANDS middle school outreach program as well as TA'ing various graduate and undergraduate courses along the way. When he's not at work, he enjoys photography, amateur astronomy, and riding motorcycles (carefully).

S32: A Quick Tour of the Universe in Splash 2010 (Apr. 03, 2010)
The universe is a vast and complex place, but astronomers have made great strides toward understanding its structure and history. In this course, we will take an abridged tour of the known universe. Along the way, we will talk about some of the techniques that astronomers use to understand and measure our universe, as well as some the outstanding issues in modern astronomy.
